Anti-anaemic and Anti-leukopenic Effects of Hydromethanolic Extracts of Tiger Nut and Ginger on Alloxan- induced Diabetic Rats

Aims: This study investigated the anti-anaemic and anti- leukopenic effects of hydromethanolic (1:4) extracts Cyperus esculentus (Tiger nut) Zingiber officinale (Ginger) on alloxan- induced diabetic albino rats.
 Place: The in vivo took place Department Biochemistry, Micheal Okpara University Agriculture Umudike, Abia state.
 Methods: Fresh was air dried at room temperature, grounded into fine powder extracted with hydromethanol ratio 20:80 using Soxhlet extraction method. rats (total number 36) were randomly divided 6 groups each: Group 1 (Normal control); 2 (Diabetic); 3 (Glibenclamide); 4 (500mg/dl esculentus); 5 officinale) (250mg/dl + 250 mg/dl officinale, 50:50) administered orally. to 160mg/kg alloxan monohydrate intraperitoneally induce a state. haematological parameters determined PCV, HB, RBC, TWBC, MCV, MCH MCHC.
 Results: group treated Glibenclamide 500 mg/kg extract had significant recovery (compared normal control) from diabetic- depletion Hb, PCV RBC than extracts. showed least anaemia.
 Conclusion: Ginger value anaemia leucopenia associated diabetes having significantly improved values haemoglobin TWBC more Tigernut combined (ginger tigernut) treatment might also increase defense mechanism body against infections diabetes.
